The SusTra x JYU.Wisdom Winter Retreat is returning in January 2027. Join fellow sustainability-focused PhD researchers for a week of focused writing, learning, networking, and inspiration in the beautiful surroundings of the Konnevesi Research Station.
In January 2026, many of us participated in the SusTra & JYU.Wisdom writing retreat at the Konnevesi research station. The experience was so wonderful that we want to organise it again! Please find preliminary information on the upcoming retreat below, and stay tuned for further information in the coming months.
What: Intensive writing and learning retreat
For: PhD researchers studying sustainability-related issues
When: Sunday 24.1. – Friday 29.1.2027 (Sunday evening arrival; retreat Mon-Fri)
Where: Konnevesi Research Station of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland
Aims: This retreat offers a unique opportunity to advance individual research, surrounded by nature and like-minded peers. The tranquil setting and structured schedule create a focused environment where gentle peer pressure helps participants gain momentum on their projects and encourages them to continue to build a supportive network of early-career researchers exploring similar themes.
Retreat days will consist of focused writing sessions, creative and inspiring workshops, and relaxing leisure activities. The beautiful nature around the research station offers possibilities for outdoor activities, and the structured sessions are designed to enhance participants’ productivity and creativity as well as support their well-being and work-life balance.
