The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is looking for a PhD student in sediment transport modelling within its Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment.
Sediment transport is a key process controlling eutrophication and hazardous substances in surface waters. Suspended sediment is an important proxy for harder to measure substances including phosphorus, microplastics and organic micropollutants. The PhD candidate will use and further develop a state of the art sediment transport model which has been employed previously for a range of projects including simulations of microplastic fate and transport; predicting the response of in-stream phosphorus to catchment management actions; and projecting future climate impacts on water quality.
The research will be part of the JPI-Water IMPASSE project “Impacts of MicroPlastics in AgroSystems and Stream Environments” with Norwegian, Spanish, German and Canadian partners.
