Assistant Professor in Ecosystem Ecology for modelling adaptive mechanisms in living systems under stress

Umeå University’s Department of Ecology and Environmental Science and IceLab are jointly opening a position for an assistant professor in Ecosystem Ecology linked to IceLab’s new Center for modelling adaptive mechanisms in living systems under stress.

Application deadline: 29th of April

Job description

We are looking for a candidate who fits the theme of the Centre (where ‘stress’ can refer to any changing environmental driver and ‘mechanisms’ can involve ecological, evolutionary and/or biogeochemical processes) and who can bridge the research environments at IceLab and the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science. We are primarily looking for candidates who use computational approaches in their research and who can teach classes including quantitative/computational skills.

The position is “tenure-track” with 75% research and 25% teaching during the first 6 years, after which the candidate is expected to fulfil the requirements for promotion to Associate Professor.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to teaching graduate and undergraduate students quantitatively oriented topics such as statistics, dynamical modelling, or network approaches at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science. We expect the successful candidate to actively seek external funding to support his or her research activities.

Eligibility requirements

  • A PhD certificate not older than 5 years.
  • Experience in conducting ecological research, including computational methods.
  • Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
