3 Master Thesis opportunities at Eußerthal Ecosystem Research Station

Three master thesis opportunities are being offered at Eußerthal Ecosystem Research Station within the project POLYRAS (POLyculture Recirculatory Aquaculture System)

The project

The Eußerthal Ecosystem Research Station (EERES) is part of the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and investigates the impacts of environmental change on aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity.

POLYRAS stands for POLyculture Recirculatory Aquaculture System, where polyculture means that several aquaculture species are bred simultaneously, and Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems are rearing systems in which water is purified and recirculated between system compartments to produce fish efficiently and ensure biosecurity.

The POLYRAS project intends to identify compatible species combinations and optimize their maintenance in different types of RAS (biofloc, aquaponics, etc.).
The project will thus make it possible to identify and propose solutions to increase fish production in the greater region while reducing the environmental impact caused by this farming and improving animal husbandry conditions.

Thesis topics

  1. Determination of favourable species combinations for aquaculture in closed systems
  2. Optimization of feed resources and reduction of the environmental impact of waste materials
  3. Optimization of production systems in mixed culture (biofloc, aquaponics, etc.)
