There is a job vacancy for a research and teaching assistant at the GhEnToxLab team for studying ecological risk assessment of realistic chemical cocktails in the water cycle.
Description
The job, at Ghent University in Belgium, is a combination of research -leading to a PhD diploma- and education, including assisting with coordinating and teaching courses such as Environmental Risk Assessment. The research topic, to be decided in more detail, will focus on the ecological risk assessment of realistic chemical cocktails in the water cycle and potential solutions to this issue. The position, under the supervision of Prof. De Schamphelaere, is expected to start around September/October.
Your Tasks
- At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of your doctoral dissertation.
- Research topic: ecotoxicity and ecological risk assessment of realistic mixtures of chemicals in the water cycle (e.g., pharmaceuticals, metals).
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically the following courses (all in English) “environmental risk assessment”, “emerging topics and current practice in environmental risk assessment”, and “metals and metalloids in the environment and technology”.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.
- You will guide students with their bachelor projects, master’s dissertations and internships.
Your Profile
- You hold a Master of Science degree and have a good knowledge of ecotoxicology, ecological risk assessment or environmental chemistry. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
- You have good teaching and communication skills.
