The Department of Plankton and Microbial Ecology at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is currently offering a tenure-track position in computational aquatic ecology.
Tasks and responsibilities related to the position include:-
- Establishment of an independent group developing an innovative research program.
- Focus on comprehensive long-term and experimental data sets on lakes, which include high-resolution and high-frequency data.
- Engagement in collaborative research, including in international initiatives such as GLEON.
- Further development of lake monitoring programs, data management and quality control.
Prospective candidates should hold a doctoral degree in quantitative ecology, biostatistics, aquatic or environmental sciences, geophysics, or a related field with good programming skills in Python, R, C++, SQL or similar. Experience in working with large data sets and in database management can be advantageous. The candidates should hold a strong publication track record.
The position is full time. It is based at IGB’s department of Plankton and Microbial Ecology 80 km north of Berlin. Salary is paid according to the German salary scheme for the public sector (TVöD Bund). IGB’s tenure track involves contracts of initially three plus three years. Decisions on tenure are based on clear criteria available on IGB’s website.
