Vacancy: Ecological Modeller / Statistician / Computational Biologist

RIFCON is looking to fill a full-time vacancy for a Ecological Modeller / Statistician / Computational Biologist for their Ecological Modelling and Statistics team.

For 25 years now RIFCON GmbH is an independent scientific consulting company offering comprehensive professional services for the registration of synthetic and biological plant protection and fertilising products (e.g. biostimulants, fertilizers, inhibitors etc.). Our head office is located in Hirschberg near Heidelberg in Germany. About 200 employees offer services ranging from complete EU registration packages, general consultancy work to sophisticated GLP field studies and various combinations of these elements. Furthermore, we offer environmental planning and environmental monitoring including eDNA services. Our employees work either at our headquarter in Hirschberg, very close to the beautiful city of Heidelberg, at our offices in Ludwigshafen or from home.

Your tasks

  • Application of ecological models in the context of environmental risk assessments
    for various organism groups under chemical exposure;
  • Statistical data evaluation in close cooperation with colleagues from our field and
    ecotoxicology departments;
  • Development of ecological/ecotoxicological models (including model design,
    implementation and documentation);
  • Analysis, summary and interpretation of model results
  • Scientific reporting.

Your skills

  • Scientific background in natural sciences such as quantitative ecology, applied
    system science, statistics/mathematics, biology, or a similar discipline;
  • Knowledge of a (high-level) programming language (e.g. R, Python);
  • Experience or interest in deepening your knowledge in:
    o Applying advanced statistical and/or computational approaches to
    ecological/ecotoxicological data;
    o Developing and evaluating models for the application in environmental risk
    assessment;
    o Reviewing and assessing data from studies and literature for use in modelling
    approaches;
  • Very good level of written and spoken English;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects;
  • Self-motivated with the wish to work in a team and address concrete challenges;
  • Enthusiasm to develop creative solutions for complex questions in environmental
    risk assessment.
