The department of Systems Analysis, Integrated Assessment and Modelling at Eawag is offering a scientific support position (70 – 100 %) for GIS and Geodata (m/f/d). The position is initially limited to 3 years with the potential of being made permanent.
Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Providing GIS and geodata support for the whole institute at various levels. From consulting and capacity building, services (e.g. producing maps to visualize data, development of reproducible workflows) to collaboration within research projects
- Actively following the development of new GIS tools and geodata products (AI, remote sensing technology), and supporting Eawag researchers to apply them
- Development and promotion of open and reproducible workflows and research data management practices
Your Profile
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (including ArcGIS and QGIS)
- Completed studies in a field related to geospatial analysis, e.g. in geoinformatics, spatial statistics, geography, geoecology, or environmental sciences
- Fluency in programming languages related to GIS (especially Python, R) for automating tasks and data analysis
- Broad experience with different spatial data types (e.g vector, raster and multidimensional data)
- Enthusiasm for a scientific support position with a high level of personal responsibility
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with people from various scientific disciplines and at various stages of their academic career (in English and German, or French)
- Interest in aquatic ecosystems and geodata related to catchments
- Development of professional practices regarding research data management
