The Department of Environmental Chemistry (Uchem) at Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, has a vacancy for a Postdoc Position in Environmental Organic Analytical Chemistry.
Project Overview
Organic pollutants in the aquatic environment can significantly impact aquatic ecosystems. However, current monitoring programs are limited. Suspect and non-target screening using high-resolution mass spectrometry combined with chromatography, appropriate ionization and computational tools for data evaluation enables a more comprehensive characterization of the vast universe of organic pollutants.
They seek a postdoc to further develop non-target workflows by improving analytical and/or data mining methods. Candidates can bring in their own ideas and contribute to other departmental projects. The current main topics of the group include the analysis of polar compounds and their transformation products in various environmental matrices using LC-HRMS/MS. As well as the link between the exposure to effects via machine-learning-based hazard prediction and risk assessment.
Position Details
The position is funded for two years with an attractive remuneration package. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to a practical course on organic trace analysis at ETH Zurich and supervise master’s students. The location is Dübendorf, near Zurich.
Candidate Profile
They encourage applications from outstanding and highly motivated candidates with a doctoral degree in environmental or analytical chemistry, environmental engineering and a strong interest in data sciences and interdisciplinary research. Previous hands-on experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry and/or data sciences is advantageous.

Analytical thinking, problem-solving attitude, flexibility, and ability to work independently and communicate clearly are essential for this position. Candidates should have excellent academic records and be fluent in written and spoken English.
