PhD position on traffic-emitted contaminants in terrestrial ecosystems

The Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research in Barcelona is offering a PhD position to work on understanding the fate of specific traffic-emitted contaminants in terrestrial ecosystems.

The IDAEA-CSIC is offering a 3-year PhD contract to work on a project led by Dr Angeliki Karanasiou and Dr Maria Izquierdo, which seeks to increase the understanding on the fate of specific traffic-emitted contaminants in terrestrial ecosystems. The work will cover their emissions and deposition, pathways and biogeochemical behaviour in the biologically active surface zone, transfers to the biosphere via plant uptake and ecotoxicological effects on plants and soil biota.

The candidate will obtain comprehensive training and practical experience in a range of techniques and approaches. The work includes fieldwork, sample processing, data processing, publication of results and presentation in conferences.

Your profile

  • Qualifications:
    Applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology or a related field by the time of appointment
  • Competences
    Interest or experience in experimental work and environmental geochemistry, and previous relevant laboratory experience are highly desirable. English language skills will be valued.

Working conditions

  • Contract duration: 36 months
  • Predoctoral contract
  • Target start date: the position is to be filled as soon as possible
