The RECETOX Centre of Masaryk University in the Czech Republic offers two PhD positions in bioanalytical and mechanistic environmental toxicology within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network “Best chemical risk assessment professionals for maximum Ecosystem Services benefit (PRORISK)”.
PRORISK, comprised of 18 universities, research institutions, enterprises and partner organisations in nine European countries and Canada, creates a novel platform for training a network of Early Stage Researchers in the field of advanced environmental risk assessment.

The first project “Linking metabolic and reproduction disruptions after exposures to novel flame retardants” focuses on characterization of mechanisms of action and biological effects of novel classes of flame retardants (FRs) and establishing an Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) network linking metabolic disruption caused by FRs with reproduction outcomes. The project is expected to primarily combine in vitro research with fish embryo model experiments.
The second project “Linking retinoid and thyroid hormone signaling disruption with adverse effects on early development” focuses on the mechanisms by which environmental pollutants and their mixtures cause adverse effects on early development and neurodevelopment. It will employ a combination of in vitro models (including stem-cell based) and zebrafish embryo assays. Molecular events (gene/protein expression) will be connected to in vivo effects via the AOP framework to enable prediction of adverse effects from in vitro responses. The mechanism-based approaches will be linked to environmental risk assessment.
