The Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN) is looking for a scientific-technical employee in Bonn for the Assessment of Synthetic Biology, Implementation of the Genetic Engineering Act Department.
The department is responsible for fundamental matters in genetic engineering, biosafety of biotechnological applications and nature conservation. Additionally, the department is responsible for carrying out specialized tasks within the implementation framework of the Genetic Engineering Act.
Tasks
- Processing applications for the commercialization of GMOs under the national genetic engineering law and corresponding EU regulations.
- Supporting the supervision of research projects, expert reports, and technical events.
- Preparing relevant facts and data for science-based policy advice.
- Presenting results through reports, publications, and presentations.
- Assisting with administrative processes of the department.
- Representing the BfN in national and international expert committees and cooperating with relevant institutions, organizations, and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Completed studies in biology or comparable scientific fields (Bachelor’s degree).
- Knowledge of environmental protection and ecology is desirable.
- Knowledge of GMO risk assessment and its legal foundations is desirable.
- Knowledge of national and international discussions on the conservation of biological diversity is desirable.
- Ability to work independently, systematically, and analytically.
- Ability to work interdisciplinarily and in teams, with analytical and conceptual thinking.
- Excellent German and English skills, both written and spoken.
- Excellent communication skills and cooperative ability.
- Willingness to travel for work (national, European, international) is desirable.
