The Institute of Fisheries Ecology of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forests and Fisheries, at the Bremerhaven site is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant PFAS specialist for collaboration in the third-party funded project „PFAS Pattern – Contamination of Fish with Fluorinated Compounds from the River to the Sea“.
Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent, potentially toxic chemicals that are widespread in aquatic ecosystems. In the EU-funded project ‘PFAS-Pattern’, PFAS concentrations in fish from German rivers and neighbouring marine areas are being investigated. In particular, PFAS patterns are taken into account in order to identify potential sources and transport routes. We are looking for an experienced and motivated scientist with proven expertise in chromatography to plan and analyse the fish samples in the laboratory on LC-MS/MS up to publication. Technical equipment and know-how are available in the working group.
Your Tasks
- You will work on HPLC-MS/MS (Agilent Infinity/Sciex QTrap) and apply existing methods for analysing PFAS in fish samples – from work-up to measurement
- You will analyse your data yourself using statistical methods
- You will expand the existing PFAS methodology including validation and documentation
- You will take on responsibility in a research project
- You will write scientific publications and project reports
Your Profile
- University degree (Dipl. (Uni)/M.Sc.) in chemistry, environmental sciences, geosciences or comparable qualification specialising in analytics
- Doctorate is desirable
- Experience in quantitative analysis, preferably chromatography with MS
- Experience with method development and analytical quality assurance
- Very good technical understanding, organisational talent and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of Office applications and experience in data analysis with R
- Good command of German and English
