The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis is hiring two research scholars – one each for ecological modelling and spatial conservation prioritization.
1. Research Scholar in Ecological Modelling
The Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation (BEC) Research Group at IIASA is offering a research scholar position in ecological modelling with responsibilities involving development of workflows and programming code for modeling of species distributions, spatial planning and assessment of protected area effectiveness and ecological modeling for land use among others.
The candidate should be well-versed in at least one programming language. Previous experience in software development is highly desirable. Linguistic proficiency in English is a must.
The candidate should be interested in applying ecological modeling techniques (in particular distribution models) to cross-sectoral applied problems such as investigating the impact of agriculture, forestry and other land-uses on biodiversity.

2. Research Scholar in Spatial Conservation Prioritization
The Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation (BEC) Research Group at IIASA is offering another research scholar position in spatial conservation prioritization with responsibilities involving development of workflows for integrated conservation planning using optimization frameworks and large geo-spatial data preparation for spatial planning and assessment of protected area effectiveness among others.
Candidate should preferably hold a PhD and a qualification in advanced spatial prioritization. Previous experience in conservation or land-use planning is desirable. Linguistic proficiency in English is a must.
